How about we learn a little history?

The existence of vineyards along the hillsides of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande dates back to antiquity. However, it was not until the beginning of the XNUMXth century, when the courts began to recognize the different names, that the region was for the first time linked to the appellation “Entre-Deux-Mers”.
But the May 24, 1928, following the initiative of the winegrowers, the Civil Court of the Gironde, distinguishes the region, as the appellation "Sainte-Foy Bordeaux". The AOC "Sainte-Foy Bordeaux" is recognized by the decree of July 31, 1937.
However in November 2016, the appellation becomes “Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux”, following the integration of the ODG (Management Defense Organisation) into the Union Côtes de Bordeaux.

But where is this name located?

The “Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux” appellation extends over 19 municipalities, located in the North-East of the Gironde department, bordered by the Dordogne, it is located between Saint-Emilion and Monbazillac, at the gates of Périgord.

It is inscribed in a landscape of hills separated by irrigated valleys. The soils are varied and the climate mild.

After all this history and geography, how about we talk a bit about the association? The Brotherhood of Wines of Sainte-Foy Bordeaux:

She's born thanks to the will of two winegrowers, Jean Mayonnade (former agricultural adviser, 1er Grand Master) and Robert Barrière (at the time President of the Wine Syndicate of the “Sainte-Foy Bordeaux” appellation, currently Grand Master). Founded May 23, 1995 she got her first chapter on 1er September 1996.
The aim of the association is to publicize and promote the wines of the AOC Sainte-Foy Bordeaux.
The Consuls (about thirty) are women and men of all origins.

Their outfit consists of a dress, a hat and a medal:

The dress has three colors :

  • Red : recalls the color of Bordeaux red wine
  • Blue : evokes the color of the Dordogne river
  • Yellow : represents the color of the sweet and syrupy wines of our appellation

Hat : a boater in black velvet, with a red ribbon, takes up the colors of the bastide and especially those of the local Rugby Club.

The medal :

  • A side : the coat of arms of the Bastide (Fleur de Lys, Tour…) surrounded by reges (rows of vines) and a bell tower representing the landscapes. A bunch of merlot recalls the abundance and richness of wine and vines for our region and all this under a beautiful sun.
  • De l'autre côté  : he wrote Confrérie des Vins de Sainte-Foy Bordeaux, with a glass of wine adorned with a bow tie formed of three letters "AOC" placed on a map of France, this one crossed by the 45rd parallel to the middle of a rugby ball.

Do not hesitate to meet the Wine Syndicate only waiting for one thing is to teach you and pass on their passion to you!
