Pascaline, welcomes me with a big smile, to introduce me to her most recent activity. Originally from Paris, after 40 years in the health sector, she decided to carry out a professional retraining, so she went in search of something that would allow her to maintain exchanges and contact with people. She then decided to create lodgings.

"I wanted to find an activity that allowed me to exchange and welcome people, something that I have always had in my job"

The property, of approximately 3 hectares, in the middle of the vineyards, called "Castle of the Pit", is located in the small village of Riocaud, a village which holds the largest pecan tree in Europe.

I go back in time, like Pascaline did with me!

The Pecan Tree, a tree that the Americans brought to Europe as a symbol of Franco-American friendship, it comes from the walnut family, it produces the pecan nut.

Pascaline tells me that that of Riocaud, a pecan whose origin remains a mystery, was brought back by the Rivoire family. This Huguenot family originally from Riocaud, the grandson of the family, who was persecuted, decided to leave at the age of 13 for Boston, where he changed his name and called himself Paul Revere, hero of the American war. American independence.

The pecan tree dates from 1750, measures approximately 45 meters in height and 5 meters in diameter and turns out to be the largest in Europe!

Today the Château de la Fosse is a private domain, a simply relaxing and soothing place, where you can relax and simply disconnect from everyday life.

Two lodgings are available to you:

  • The gîte "The Maids' House", which also has a history, and you may be wondering why "des demoiselles", let's take another small leap into history...

To access the property we have two options, one of them is via the Chemin des Demoiselles. This path was so named because the story goes that between two vineyards there was a reservoir where the young ladies went to bathe. And that's how the name came about.

  • And the lodge “The House of the Pecan Trees”, in homage to the Pacanier de Riocaud or the Pacanier de Paul Revere, as the inhabitants of the village baptized it.

These two accommodations with incredible charm will make you spend an ideal holiday in a quiet location in the heart of the Foyenne countryside.

Pascaline is a passionate and fascinating host who listens to visitors!
