At the gates of Libourne, on the right bank of the Dordogne, the Pomerol appellation has a very rich wine-growing past dating back to Roman times. In the Middle Ages, the monks created a hospital here, on the way of the pilgrimage towards Saint Jacques de Compostelle and developed the culture of the vine. Today, the vineyard extends over 800 hectares and has 140 properties including the illustrious Château Pétrus.
La Maison des Vins offers a large selection of Pomerol wines and vintages sold at the property price. The shop also offers various books on the appellation. The Confrérie des Hospitaliers de Pomerol strives to maintain and encourage the traditions of a renowned vineyard of which they are the protectors and ambassadors throughout the world.
