Castle of Vayres

Some 15 km from Bordeaux in the direction of Libourne, the Château de Vayres, the former property of King Henri IV, is a remarkable historic site in more ways than one. The feudal origin of this important defensive stronghold can be found in the square keep, the castelet and the towers. It was in the XNUMXth century that Vayres took on the appearance of a Renaissance castle.
Note its classical facade, the refinement of the main gallery that we owe to the architect of the Lighthouse of Cordouan, its monumental double spiral staircase above the moat. Exceptional collection of tapestries.
At the Château de Vayres, stroll through the elegant French gardens that overlook the left bank of the Dordogne. A course of riddles on the history of the castles fascinates young and old and, every summer, the Festival of Cape and Sword brings together the fine blades of the region.
