The Vézelay route, Unesco World Heritage

Le pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela has always been considered, like those of Rome and Jerusalem, as one of the great peregrinations of Christianity. Did you know? The years when the feast of Saint James (July 25) falls on a Sunday are holy years (jubilees) where pilgrims obtain special graces and indulgences; there are especially many in those years to go to Santiago de Compostela. The last Jubilee year was in 2010 and the next in 2021…

The Vézelay route in Gironde

The Vézelay route arrives in Gironde from the bridge of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande. The path continues in Entre-deux-Mers, then beyond Réole, through Bazadais and finally into the entrance to the Landes de Gascogne. The pilgrim will then be able to discover territories steeped in history and a remarkable Jacobean heritage.

Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, a stage on the way

Sainte-Foy-la-Grande is the major stage between Mussidan (24) and Saint-Ferme (33). You can reach the bastide town of Sainte-Foy-La-Grande and the town of Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt by following the signposting of the General Council of the Dordogne from Mussidan. You will leave the Pays Foyen after having been able to sleep in the pilgrim accommodation of the bastide of Pellegrue.

In the time of English Aquitaine, many secondary routes existed between Dordogne and Garonne. In addition, a variant of the road to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle arrives in Pays Foyen from Bergerac. You arrive on our territory by discovering the church of Pineuilh.

La Bastide de Pellegrue, the next stop ...

The bastide of Pellegrue was crossed and still is by very many pilgrims who stop in particular at the jacquaire lodging of the commune. Located on the road to Vézelay, it is a stopover for an appreciated rest. You can contact
