Street art route

Does street art speak to you? but what's next?

It is a contemporary artistic movement that developed at the end of the last century. It is defined as the art of public places, that which we find in our streets and on our walls. The one we don't always pay attention to, but which can hold some nice surprises. It comes in various forms, lasting or ephemeral: graffiti, stencil, poster, pastel, chalk and even video projection.

As part of its cultural programming, the town of Castillon-la-Bataille launched a street art project in 2021 intended to put art back on the street, within everyone's reach and which can be viewed freely. “Street art Castillon” invites each year an artist of national or international renown to create one or more works in public space. The operation launches in June 2021 with the stencil artist C215 who creates 7 works including 3 originals: Eleanor of Aquitaine, Marshal Turenne and Michel de Montaigne.

In addition

As part of the visit of C215, students from the Aliénor d'Aquitaine college produced biographies of the personalities painted by the artist. Thus, small red plaques with QR codes are placed next to the works and allow you to listen to the life of the person represented. A collaboration reproduced in 2022.

The works offer themselves to the gaze and invite us to look up, a way of reconnecting with spaces we pass through on a daily basis and which we no longer see. In 2022, the city welcomed the Bordeaux artist Alber and the famous Mr. Cat. The journey will continue until 2026.
